Banjul Breweries Ltd. is one of the leading producers of lager beer and other alchoholic and non alchoholic drinks in the Gambia. The company started production in 1977. The Brewery, which has a capacity of almost 50.000 hl, has presently an output of 35.000 hl, which is largely depending on the tourist industry. The majority of the company shares are held by the German owners, (Brauhaase Int. Management GmbH and DAH, both Hamburg), while the balance is held by the Gambian Government.
Special efforts are being made to produce softdrinks utilizing local raw materials like Sorel, Mango etc. At present the Brewery employs approximately 110 Gambian staff and two expatriates. Development of human resources is playing an important role in the company's strategy and besides regular training-on-the-spot by European experts, indiginous staff is also sent overseas for further education and training.
